QuiltWeek, the official traveling show of the American Quilter’s Society, is returning to Syracuse, NY for a second year! According to Visit Syracuse, last year’s QuiltWeek show had an economic impact of $1.4 million in our region. And once again this year, Syracuse is the only location for the QuiltWeek show in the Northeast US!
There are ten special exhibits that will be coming to this year’s show at the Oncenter, including two very special NY-themed exhibits:
First, the “Row by Row Experience” encourage quilters from around the world to visit different quilting shops to pick up a special quilting square, then bring those squares together to create rows of themed patches on a quilt. Not only is this year’s “Row by Row” exhibit New York themed, but it was actually created by Janet Lutz of Calico Gals Quilt Shop in Syracuse. It began in 2011 with 20 quilt shops across New York State, and it has grown to more 2,655 shops across the U.S., Canada, and Europe that participated in this year’s Row by Row Experience!
And the second NY-themed exhibit is the “Seasons of CNY – Over the Fence Challenge” which will showcase quilts from the Skaneateles-based Thumbstall Quilt Guild that are related to the seasons in Central New York, and incorporate the scene as if you are looking over a fence.
