The Central New York Community Foundation has invited president Crystal DeStefano, APR, back to host another Nonprofit Essentials Workshop Series (NEWS) session!
After an incredibly successful presentation in 2020, demand has returned for a session that teaches nonprofits how to identify the best stories for their organization, how to secure media interest in those stories, and best practices in preparing for a successful media interview.
Everyone loves to see positive news stories about their organization, but it can be difficult to know how to garner these stories. Understanding the importance of sharing good news and being well prepared for your interviews are Crystal’s specialty. She and her team have written several articles about these topics, which you can find in the News section of our website.
Key takeaways from this session will include:
• Learn the best contact for local media outlets
• Understand what is (and is not) newsworthy
• Determine which local media outlets are the best fit for different types of stories
• Use the “Critical 10” before any interview
• Navigate different types of media interviews, including TV, radio, print, and web-based news outlets
• Plan ahead for a full year of potential stories
