Crystal (Smith) DeStefano, APR, hosted the 2013 PRSA Northeast District Conference in Syracuse, NY on Thursday, November 7, 2013 – the first time this Conference has ever been held in Central New York.
While serving as President-Elect in 2012, and in preparation for the goals she had set for her term as president in 2013-2014, Crystal proposed to the local Central New York Chapter Board that the group host the biggest conference in the Northeast for the public relations industry. With their support, Crystal then lobbied to the District leadership and all of the leadership from the Chapters throughout the Northeast District of PRSA to secure Syracuse for this year’s event.
The PRSA-CNY Board of Directors created the entire conference program around the theme “Feed Your Passion.” In addition to providing tips and case studies in a variety of areas from the industry, and at all levels, to help professionals become even more effective, the 2013 PRSA Northeast District Conference also offers networking, vendor services to explore, entertainment, and food. Some of the biggest names in food presented at the Conference, including supermarket powerhouse Wegmans, Greek yogurt maker Chobani, and travel destination Destiny USA.
At the conference, Michael Meath was a featured presenter on the increasingly-important topic of communicating with a major key audience: government officials. Because working with government agencies and elected officials can seem overwhelming, Michael offers specific expertise to help attendees navigate the complex, interrelated factors that impact public policy decisions and the laws and regulations that affect the communications goals and business goals of their organizations.
This Conference was attended by more than 150 public relations professionals and students from across the Northeast, and has helped to meet goals set by the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau, as the program drives traffic and activity in Syracuse.
Crystal, Michael, and the rest of the Strategic Communications, LLC team continue to host and participate in professional development programs as featured speakers.
